Iranian critics, writers impressed with “What’s the Time in Your World?”

TEHRAN -- “What’s the Time in Your World?”, Safi Yazdanian’s debut film about a trip through memories, has won awards in several categories, including best film and best screenplay, at the Ninth Celebration of Iranian Cinema Critics and Screenwriters.


The film produced by Ali Mosaffa is about Goli, an Iranian woman who decides to return to Iran after 20 years of living in France. She lands in Rasht, her hometown. Farhad, a frame maker by trade, comes to welcome her. He seems to know her well, but the young woman has absolutely no recollection of him.

The film also brought Yazdanian the best screenwriter award during the star-studded celebration, which was held at the Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults in Tehran on Sunday evening.

The celebration is organized annual by the Society for Cinema Critics and Screenwriters.

Christophe Rezai received the best composer award and cinematographer Homayun Payvar won an honorable mention for their collaboration in “What’s the Time in Your World?”

The best director award went to Abolhassan Davudi for “Crazy Castle”, a drama about the abuse of the internet in modern Iranian society.

Celebrated actor Farhad Aslani who is suffering from obesity received the Award for Best Innovation in Acting for his roles in “Binam Alley”, “Ice Age” and “Time to Love”.

The Award for Best Innovative and Promising Filmmaker was presented to Vahid Jalilvand for his acclaimed debut feature, “Wednesday, May 9”.

The award for best actor went to Saeid Aqakhani for his role in “The Long Goodbye”, director Farzad Motamen’s drama about a man who wants to begin a new life after a long prison term.

Hooman Seyyedi won the best supporting actor award for his role in “I Am Diego Maradona” directed by Bahram Tavakkoli.

“Binam Alley” won Baran Kowsaro the best actress award while Fereshteh Sadr-Orafaei received the best supporting actress award for her role in the movie, which is about two families living in a poor neighborhood in southern Tehran.

The best editor award was presented to Bahram Dehqani for his collaboration in “I Am Diego Maradona” and the Award for Best Art and Technical Achievement was shared by graphic designer Faraz Eskandari for his collaboration in “Crazy Castle”, and sound effects designers Alireza Alavian and Mahmud Sammakbashi for their collaboration in “I Am Diego Maradona”.
